Novato lies in the most Northern part of Marin. There is a feeling of open space all around. Novato was once mostly horse ranches and more recently where Hamilton Air Base was located. Now on the old airbase stands a community of lovely homes and local shopping. The downtown area has the look and feeling of a Western Town of the early 1900's and part of the downtown was built in the 1950's and now has grown into a family town of over 47,000. Schools are important here and they are competing with the best in Marin with high scores. Check out "School scores" on my site to get more information. Novato was built up in the 1970-1980's. It has the feeling more of a Sonoma County town with rolling hills, Oak Trees throughout. It has a warmer climate in the summer compared to their sister towns to the south.
